Grief and Loss
Grief is an intense reaction experienced after the loss of a loved one, relationship, pregnancy, job, pet, accident, etc. The more significant the loss the more intensive the grief. During this time, you may feel intense feelings like anger, guilt, sadness, shock, or disbelief. It can manifest in affecting your ability to sleep, eat, think straight, and function. There is no specific pattern to grief and everyone handles loss differently. It is a highly individualized experience. However, it can become overwhelming if the intensity and feelings of grief persist and impact a person’s everyday functioning in life. If you feel overwhelmed by your feelings around a significant loss, you may find it helpful to process your emotions in a healthy way. Speaking with a professional counselor may help you navigate through your emotions, come to terms with it, find some meaning, and be able to move forward in order to reach a place of healing.
